Perhaps one of the most stunning stretches of the Lower Kennet with fast runs and attractive, sweeping bends. Historically this was the most prolific barbel stretch on the whole river but is now a venue in transition. Large barbel and chub can still be found along with very large wild brown trout and some decent pike. Perch can be found to specimen sizes and there are shoals of dace and roach on the lower sections with a number of good fish amongst them. Grayling have been stocked recently and seem to be doing well.

Our colleagues at the Wild Trout Trust believe that Upper Benyon’s has the best potential to deliver quality spring fly fishing for large wild trout, particularly in the Mayfly Season. The venue has produced fish to five pounds to both fly and coarse anglers.

We have established a specific 20 RDAA member trout section and are inviting applications from new and existing members. The annual cost is an extra £50 for existing members and £70 for new recruits plus, of course the usual annual subscription.

Applications are now open and members should drop a line to rdaatrout@gmail.com to register an interest and explain why you’d like to be considered for membership
