Perhaps one of the most stunning stretches of the Lower Kennet, this is very popular with our barbel fraternity and some large fish are expected with the Kennet record for both Barbel and Chub under threat.

Though the most popular species to fish for at this prolific venue, it’s not all barbel.

Big Perch, dace and roach show on the lower sections with a number of decent pike

In addition to our own private Car Park, the local Community Centre has a large Car Park 125 yards north of the Padworth Road Bridge, which we have permission to use, but gets little use. Members often generate problems for us by inconsiderate roadside parking on a fairly narrow road and when the fever is upon them in the first month, often double parking, creating difficulties for vehicles and agricultural equipment, this leads to disciplinary action with the offenders permits being removed at least. Our response to police complaints now, is simply to remove and impound

No Close Season Fishing with the exception below;

Our colleagues at the Wild Trout Trust believe that Upper Benyon’s has the best potential to deliver quality spring fly fishing for large wild trout, particularly in the Mayfly Season. The venue has produced fish to five pounds to both fly and coarse anglers.

We have established a specific 20 RDAA member trout section and are inviting applications from new and existing members. The annual cost is an extra £50 for existing members and £70 for new recruits plus, of course the usual annual subscription.

Applications are now open and members should drop a line to rdaatrout@gmail.com to register an interest and explain why you’d like to be considered for membership
