This was our fourth and final RDAA Open match this season, held on our prolific Kennet and Avon Canal venue at Froxfield and held on Thursday 29th December 2011.

Fifty Five Anglers were booked in for this match and the match day weather was overcast with occasional rain and with a very strong and gusty wind blowing down the canal. The strong wind on the day caused many problems with poor presentation, good fish being lost by being blown off the hook and a least one pole being broken. The Kennet and Avon Canal had a good colour and was towing slightly

Total match weight on the day was 178lbs 15ozs, (at an average weight of 3lbs 9ozs per Angler).

A big thank you goes to Angela Thomas of Thames Valley Angling for taking all of the bookings, placing the adverts in the Angling Press and collating all the names. Thanks also to all those that turned out to make it a very successful day.

The match was won by Mark Bowerman of Sensas A4. Fishing the third peg above the “Ash Tree” at the bottom end of Froxfield “B” section, Mark banked perch to 2lbs along with roach during the course of the match, fishing pole tactics, feeding squatt and pinkie, and chopped worm and caster with single pinkie, maggot and worm on the hook to record a weight of 12lbs 6ozs.

Tony Salczynski of Tubertini South was second overall. Fishing the second peg above the “Ash Tree” at the bottom end of Froxfield “B” Section, Tony also banked perch to 2lbs along with Roach during the course of the match, fishing pole tactics, feeding squatt and pinkie, and chopped worm and caster with single pinkie, maggot and worm on the hook to record a weight of 11lbs 14ozs.

Mick Mills of King Heron AC was third overall. Fishing the third peg above the “Broken Bridge” on on Froxfield “B” section, Mick banked perch to 1lbs along with roach during the course of the match, fishing a combination of pole and waggler tactics, feeding squatt and pinkie, and chopped worm and caster with single pinkie, maggot and worm on the hook to record a weight of 7lbs 15ozs.

Lionel Cook (Thatcham Angling) and Gary Etheridge (Milo Borden) shared fourth place with 6lbs 12ozs each of perch and roach.
