Specimen Group

The way Night Fishing works at R&DAA has changed for the 2012-13 season, please read further down this page for information.

The Association  Specimen Group, membership of which is available to all senior members as an additional option.

Specimen Group members are able to fish Sonning Eye Pit and River, Farnham Flint,  Englefield Lagoon, Pingewood Lagoon, Cottage Lane Lakes,  Whistley Mill Lake and River, north bank of River Kennet at Upper Benyons on a continuous day and night basis.. Some selected venues (see price list below) on the River Kennet will be open up to midnight. These venues are open to all members during normal hours. Members of the Specimen Group will be required to observe additional rules, these can be found in the Forum under Specimen Group Talk.

Sonning Eye Pit is a large water and is known to hold very large fish including many 30/40lb Carp and a 52lbs Mirror Carp first caught May 2000, good head of large Bream, Tench and Perch is also present.

Sonning River is a section of the Thames that holds all of the river species, noted for it's big bags of Bream and very large Carp.

Englefield Lagoon is very hard fishing but can be very rewarding, expect Carp to 40lbs plus, Bream to 16lbs plus and Tench to 12lbs plus in the past the lake has also produced some very large Roach.

Farnham Flint holds Carp to 30lbs plus, with a good head of Tench, Bream and Roach.

Cottage Lane Lakes, these have been regarded as the RDAA beginners water but these fish have grown on and now that the lakes have been joined together the fish could be anywhere.

Pingewood Lagoon, a lovely venue with bright, clear water, a very good head of resident quality fish, 2004-05 saw Terry Hearn feature the water in his Carp supplement to the Angling Times where he achieved three fish over 40lbs. Plenty of Carp in excess of 30lbs, double figure Bream, Tench to 12lbs plus  with Crucians.

Whistley Mill, the lake contains Carp to 40lbs plus, Tench to 12lbs plus and large Bream shoal to 13 lbs, while the river has quality specimen Barbel, Chub and pike.

Upper Benyons (North Bank only). One of the River Kennet's  best known stretches and as this will be only the third season for night fishing then do not be surprised to see the Kennet,s Barbel and Chub records threatened.

Beats 1,2,3,4,5, Burghfield River & Theale River. Any of these venues can turn up specimen barbel and chub.

2012-13 Season will change the way Night Fishing will operate on RDAA waters. It will be on a card issue (see below) and this will give the holder a far greater range of venues to be fished. It will be far easier to obtain Night permits as local Tackle Shops will be selling them over the counter but they will still be available from our Associate Members Secretary. (See About Us)
