This is rapidly becoming a sought after water after Terry Hearn featured it in 2004-05 season as the Berkshire Pit in his Carp supplement to the Angling Times. Three different fish of 40lbs plus were banked one of which is now probably over the 50 lbs. Also carries a high stock of 30's and plenty of 20lb plus fish. Several anglers have also experienced 100lb Bream bags during the same season. Large Tench also reside here but are rarely fished for.

ENGLEFIELD LAGOON

POSTCODE RG30 3UW

From Junction 11 of M4 take A33 towards Basingstoke.  First roundabout take 3rd exit and then 2nd right, continue towards Pingewood over M4 to traffic lights, over railway bridge past Cottage Lane on right, car park gate is on right hand side. . Or from Burghfield Road see Farnham Flint. Car Park on Farnham Flint Venue.

A 47 acre lake adjacent to our Farnham Flint Lake and match headquarters. this water holds very large fish ( the once British National Bream record fish 0f 16lb 9oz was caught here, and recently the carcass of a bream that died of natural causes was recovered which had exceeded 20 lbs. !). Two Bream were taken in the 2004 -05 season at 16lbs plus (see picture below). Carp are present in the 40 lb. plus class and there are heavyweights in other species, notably Pike and Roach.

Be warned though, it is a hard water and demands a patient approach, which can be extremely well rewarded. Weed growth is a problem in the summer but we are searching for methods of control.

WYLIE'S LAKE (THATCHAM)

POSTCODE RG19 3AL

Leaving Newbury on A4 towards Reading, approaching Thatcham turn right at traffic lights into Lower Way, then turn right into Sports Centre.

We have progressively stocked this lake, since its purchase in 1989, as a mixed Fishery, with particular emphasis on Tench and Bream. The current addition in February 1997, was 300 lbs. plus of Roach, of between 3/4 to 1. 1/2 lbs. each.  Our own private Car Park is behind the sports centres own facilities. Adjacent to our Car Park, the platforms were built wider to facilitate disabled anglers being able to park and fish with ease. As there are another 33 platformed swims off the perimeter path surrounding the Lake, it would be thoughtful to leave the disabled platforms unless the other platforms were taken. There  are now three disabled priority concrete platforms which have been installed during the 2005 close season.

May 2005, Tench of 6lbs 8ozs which is an average size Tench for this venue caught on 8 metres of pole and worm bait.

May 2006 saw Steve Hooke bank this superb 8lbs 6 ozs tench.

Alex Jennings banked this lovely condition 10lbs 1oz Bream at 1.30 pm on 31st March 2006 using a cocktail of sweetcorn and maggot.

HAMBRIDGE LAKE (Newbury)

POSTCODE RG14 2QG

Leaving Newbury on A4 towards Reading, approaching Thatcham turn right at traffic lights into Hambridge Road.  The RDAA car park is 50 yards on left hand side.

This is a lovely venue of some 14 acres, an idyllic summer venue, ringed by mature trees and bushes, constantly refreshed by the Moor Stream, which runs through it. The lake contains a good head of mature Carp, with good secondary and tertiary groups, and many other species, particularly good Tench.

Beware of losing your bait on this venue as this picture taken by Darren Broadhurst testifies.

Good to see some pictures of the fish in this venue. Colt Spooner holds 18lbs of muscle caught on floating crust in the heat of the day on 18th June 2006

Not content with having large Chub from the Kennet in the winter, Toby Taynton's first visit to this venue in May 2006 resulted in this stunning 4lbs 2 ozs Crucian. Caught on double sweetcorn he regards it as a fish of a lifetime.

A sample of the 800 Crucians stocked into the lake in March 2007.

Fishing with lobworm under waggler for the lakes Tench in March 2007 James Colton was surprised with this    2lbs 9 ozs Perch.

My thanks to Colt Spooner for the pictures below all caught early 2007

Caught at the back of one of the islands in the depths of winter weighed in at 21lbs 2ozs

Fishing over a bed of particles with a 15mm glugged source bottom bait saw this 22lbs 4 ozs on to the bank.

This was a re-catch of the fish above caught in June 2006 but weighing in at 18lbs 8ozs.

SONNING LAKE

POSTCODE RG4 6TU

From A4 at Charvil follow B478 through Sonning village, over River Thames. Turn left at next mini roundabout, follow road around to the right and turn left into venue through combination locked gate. Car park on right just after gate or follow road to car park just before Sailing Club. Can also be accessed from Reading – Henley road A4155 and turn right at mini roundabout on B478

The Lake is very sizeable and holds an immense head of Bream , which patrol in large shoals. A good head of Tench and numbers of large Perch are also prominent and a significant number of large Carp, 52lbs Mirror caught May 2000 . Quite popular with our Pike fishing fraternity in the colder months, on its day can produce huge bags, but the problem is, are the fish anywhere near you? Not a fair match venue, so very rarely allocated.

Disabled members should fish the small water linked to the main lake, the car parking is just on the right as you enter the venue, and you can virtually fish from the back of the car - a very productive area, in which no one should ever blank.

The Eye taken at 57 lbs by Chris Pearson

Sunday May 8th 2005 saw Fred Jones with an 8 Fish bag for 67 lbs including Bream 11lbs 2 ozs and Tench 9lbs 4 ozs.

Dusty Millar (Associate Members Secretary) & Alan Hughes (General Secretary) show the quality of the venue 8lbs 4 ozs Tench & 8lbs 8 ozs Bream taken on 6 mtrs. of pole. May 20th 2005

A2lbs 12ozs Perch and 6lbs Bream for Derek Wiblin in May 2005

Andy Longfellow with a personal best 8lbs 8ozs Tench in July 2005.

July 15th 2005 saw this Bream 7lbs 12 ozs to Martin Deane whilst Chris Deane took a fine 7lbs 8ozs Tench. This was all part of a 16 fish haul.

April 2006 Justin Wright spotted several carp cruising near the surface, cast to them and was rewarded with this 26lbs specimen.

Nine year old Kayleigh Phillipps looks well pleased with her personal best Bream in August 2006

One of the best photo's we have received. Although not a huge fish, this Pike weighing in at 17lbs 12ozs certainly looks impressive for it's captor Matt Berresford.

Probably one of my favourite pics to date . A very proud father Keith Rogers sends this picture of his 13 year old son Michael's 10lbs 2 ozs specimen Tench in May 2007. A personal best I am sure that will be very difficult to beat in a lifetime.

June 2007 saw Richard Chandaman beat his personal best Tench by 1.5 lbs as he weighed in this 9lbs 2 ozs beauty.

Although the Tench are numerous in this venue to take two of 8 lbs plus in the same session is not easy.

Andy Longfellow did just that in July 2007

Andy proved the point in August 2007 that fish are still in the venue after the floods. Although not a big fish at 17lbs 6ozs it was part of an 11 fish haul with 9 Bream up to 8lbs 10ozs and one small Tench.

First pictures of 2008 where Peter Larratt banked this fine 9lbs 2 ozs Tench. Taken on method feeder with 11mm pellet on April 8th

Andy Longfellow carries on in 2008 as he left 2007 with a 29lbs Carp. He seems to catch on wet and windy days so there may be a lesson for all of us.
