I can't believe no-one has commented on the size of some of these fish compared to the claimed weights...........

eg: The 18lb well scaled mirror which has had 10lb added.....................the 31lb 8oz mirror which is not a pound above 12lb or the 27lber the young lad is holding, 10 at a guess!!!

Why do people do that??

I have lost count of the amount of time I have seen people weigh fish in a soaking wet sling and not even bothered the zero the scales first. Tend to not listen to peoples weights to much unless I know they are a capable angler.

Usuaslly I would agree with Mr T etc, however having spoken to the individual concerned at the time of some of the gallery posting; he said the information he gave had been misquoted. Also I believe it is difficult to judge the size of fish in photos, My 15lb 9oz Barbel as an example:- I look at the picture everyday on my screen saver and each time I question the wieght. There are fish caught by big people that look small, there are fish held out at arms length and without seeing the individual in person it is hard to work out size/wieght.

May I say that from what I am hearing and seeing in these posts that the person concerned appears to be recieving some unneeded critisism from some others :( (Not all the posts). Is there need for this behaviour on the forum, if one has a problem with another - first port of call should be to speak to them directly.

We all make mistakes in all walks of life,so live and let live, I believe/hope that the person has learn't from this and will be more careful in future; even if only to not be in a place where critisism is open to be used. I hope it doesn't cloud their opinion of others and they are able to continue to enjoy their time angling.
Will you remember me without the beard and long hair of years gone by?

if it wasnt for the tackle companies wanting to make so much money out of fishcare equipment issues like this would not be made such a big deal of.

Its every fishermans duty to look after fish to the very best of their ability, of course it is, but that does not mean we all have to trapse the lake with the a 7ft sq unhooking mat, 2 landing nets, anticeptic ointment, a weigh sling that could lift a blue whale etc etc..

Its not ideal, but laying a fish on a patch of long lush grass doesn't do it any harm, not that i do it but i used to as a teenager. Everybody has their own way, it may not be yours, but thats the way it is.

I will add standing photo's with a specimen carp both looks rubbish and is not the way to do it.

I disagree, we have, as in many walks of life, become more educated and more responsibly aware with regards fish care, when I was a lad it was common practice to stuff everything you caught in a 10inch diameter by 6 foot long, horribly knotted keepnet, would ANYONE think that is ok today.........

The club has rules and they include, for example, the use of unhooking mats...............they are not our fish, they belong to the club and we MUST treat them as the club wishes to protect their assets, AS A MINIMUM...............rant over

Lush grass? So when the fish moves around and knocks it's head it will eventually knock itself out. Fish care should be the number 1 priority.

A lack of fish care is just an excuse for ameteur angling as far as I'm concerned. There are plenty of good quality unhooking mats that double as weigh slings (Trakker SL as an example) that will fold in a chair.
And when is it a inconvenience to carry a suitable sized landing net. I really don't understand the lack of respect from some anglers.

I'm with MrT 100%. An adequate Mat, Net, and Sling, NO EXCUSES. It's basic fishcare.
